About Republic
Republic is building the world's first compute-backed Layer 1 blockchain. The Republic network (RAI) is powered by a flywheel that connects a fund SPV, real-world compute infrastructure, and a growing ecosystem of AI companies — creating a self-reinforcing economy where compute production drives token value, and token value drives compute acquisition. As AI reshapes global capital markets through equity-for-compute structures, Republic is positioning RAI as the reserve currency of the AI economy.
The Role
We're looking for a Protocol Engineer to help design, build, and maintain the core infrastructure of the Republic network. You'll work at the intersection of distributed systems, cryptographic protocol design, and tokenomics — building the foundational layer that powers a global compute economy. This is a deeply technical role with significant autonomy and direct impact on network architecture.
What You’ll Do
- Design and implement core protocol components including consensus mechanisms, block production, validator logic, and finality rules
- Develop and maintain on-chain incentive systems governing RAI emissions tied to compute production
- Collaborate with ML and data infrastructure teams to support real-time deal selection algorithms that run on Republic's network at global scale
- Ensure protocol security, performance, and correctness through rigorous testing, formal verification, and code review
- Participate in open research on novel tokenomic mechanisms, reserve currency dynamics, and L1 network valuation models
- Help establish engineering best practices as an early technical hire shaping the team's culture and processes
- Design and implement efficient, resilient P2P networking layers using concepts like gossip protocols, DHTs (e.g., Kademlia), and NAT traversal.
- Harden our systems against common P2P vulnerabilities, applying best practices in network security.
- Build monitoring, debugging, and tuning tools to optimize network performance and reduce latency.
- Collaborate with DevOps to deploy and scale secure, containerized infrastructure (Docker, Kubernetes, Ansible).
- Contribute to the architecture of a next-gen decentralized network stack with blockchain-specific performance and consensus considerations.
What We're Looking For
- 4+ years of experience in protocol engineering, distributed systems, or systems programming
